Turkish lira is declining because of the “American priest”

The Turkish lira fell after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose sanctions on Ankara unless a US priest was freed, prompting an angry reaction from Turkey and exacerbating tensions between the two NATO allies.
By 05:03 GMT, the Turkish currency hit 4.8650 lira to the dollar, down from the previous close of 4.8555, according to Reuters.

The Turkish currency was around 4.82 on Thursday afternoon, before publishing reports on the threat of sanctions, and then fell to 4.89 lira to the dollar.
