WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States said on Wednesday it was close to investing in an associated gas project in southern Iraq, saying it would not cost Iraq any money.
“The next week may announce a project to invest gas associated with the oil fields in southern Iraq,” the US ambassador in Baghdad, Douglas Seelman, told a news conference that “investment will cost Iraq little money.”
“The investment project in the south, in addition to the other investment project to secure the road from Baghdad to Jordan, which one of the companies is seeking to invest, are two typical projects of what Washington looks forward to support Iraq.”
Iraq is seeking to contract with major international companies to invest gas associated with the oil fields after it was burned during the process of extracting oil without benefiting from it.
