A delegation of international and tourist and scientific delegations visited today the areas of the Huweiza marshes and Umm Na’aj and the eastern marshes.
The Director of the Marshlands Rehabilitation Department of Maysan Salam Saadoun Jassim said in a press statement on Monday that the delegations have seen the areas of water bodies and marshes of the province after the annexation of the region to the list of world heritage by UNESCO
He pointed out that the delegations, which included researchers, tourists and environmental elements, directed questions to the marsh dwellers about the biota in the marshes and the extent of the region’s exposure to overfishing, the use of toxins and the quantities of water releases.
