Kuwait and Iraq are finalizing the natural gas import agreement, the minister of oil and water minister Essam al-Marzouq said.
Al-Marzouq confirmed in a press statement that the technical details of the project have been completed and the agreement is due to be signed this summer.
He explained that Kuwait will initially import 50 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, gradually increasing this amount to reach 200 million cubic feet.
He pointed out that negotiations are underway on setting prices and a meeting will be held by the Technical Committee charged with studying the file of natural gas import from Iraq to finalize the agreement in this regard.
He added that the project will start with the signing of the import agreement and then laying the pipelines for gas pipelines. He expected that “this process will take from one to two years, and that importation will begin during the coming year.
